Where to buy “sport knit” fabric?
I would like to make my own showmanship/horsemanship/rail jackets and have been looking for sport knit fabric that has a little stretch to it. Is there another name for this fabric and where can I find it?
I get stuff on ebay all the time. I like gabardine (polyester) for showmanship outfits (it lays really smooth, and is easy to do appliques on), and I usually use something with lycra in it that is at least a 2 way stretch for my rail shirts. You can use moleskin instead of ultrasuede for cuffs and collars, and I order heat set rhinestones from therhinestoneguy.com or rhinestoneguy.com (i think thats his website, you can do a search for it.)
If you search on ebay, you can search by fabric type. I’ve found some great lightweight ones that are terrific for summer that already have some sparkle to them also. You can also do some searches for “knit” or “stretch”, or just by the color you want, retro pattern, or whatever.
Good luck! oh….and for the cuffs/collars, I use a really heavy upholstery weight interfacing to make them really stiff…it works awesome. You can get colored fine toothed zippers from www.zipperconnection.com (or thezipperconnection, or something along those lines)
