What color wall paint goes with chocolate furniture and red accent accessories?
I have a microsuede chocolate twin chair and otto, along with a dark brown armoire in a small “loft” area (more like a seating area). I want to put red throw pillows on chair, and a set of red panels on the windows. However, I have no idea what to paint the walls? Any suggestions?
The lovely thing about brown is that it goes well with nearly any colour. However, seeing as you have red accents, I think you may probably want to go with a warm colour.
Of course, there’s always neutrals. Different forms of beige always work, but I tend more to creamy tones that look more fresh and inviting than beige. These cream tones also have the benefit of working with nearly any colour scheme, if you ever redesign.
Possibly try yellow, which is a fairly neutral colour, but still has some character. You can do light creams with yellow tones, buttercup yellows, or very robust golden tones. I think a bright gold colour will offset the chocolate brown furniture very well, and will seem to mirror and reflect sunlight.
You may notice I’ve been skewing towards lighter colours? Darker colours make a space smaller (but cosy) and lighter colours tend to expand it. You can always go for a shade of brown, varying from a light coffee colour with a hint of sienna, to just another deep chocolatey shade, but I think that it may give an overdose of brown. Matching is all well and good, but I usually like to have complementary contrast. Seeing as you have red accents, it’s probably best to stick to lighter wallpaint to offset the rest of the bright colour.
If you really love brown and think you can accommodate the smaller feel that will result, go ahead! Just make sure you have some spots of lighter colour, like white lampshades, a light rug, or something similar.
I’m not sure if you have a nearby Home Depot, but mine offers small samples of Ralph Lauren paint. If you can get those, choose a few colours you love and will look great with your furniture (you think) and then paint them on the wall! See which colour matches best.
Ralph Lauren does indeed have lovely paints; the selection is more limited, but each colour is quite carefully chosen, in my view.
